What is an emotion?

Most of us recognize emotion as a feeling and state of mind. It actually is a complex psychophysiological experience that involves physiological arousal, conscious experience and expressive behaviors.

Emotion is where thoughts connect physically to the body and are expressed. They can be fleeting or long lasting.

When an emotion extends over days or weeks it is thought of as a Mood. When a prevailing mood lasts years, it is thought of as a personality trait.

Emotions, moods and traits impact our perspectives and reactions to the events around us. Therefore, Well-Being necessitates that we have an understanding, appreciation and modicum of control over these elements of our experience.
